The Chairman of SFC Football Club Warri, Comrade Onobredefe Anthony Onos, JP has call on the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to consider appointing Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori as the next Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission for MORE success in State’s track and field sporting activities.
Onobredefe who made the call on behalf of the Club while speaking to newsmen in Asaba, noted that, Onoriode Oborevwori if appointed as Chairman of the Sports Commission has a well structured plan towards the overall development of Sports in the State, saying, he will build on the enviable achievements of his predecessor, Mr Tonobok Okowa, who led Delta State to victory at the National Sports Festival on three different occasions at Abuja 2018, Edo 2020 and Asaba 2022.
According to him; Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori popularly known as ‘Onos’ was born in Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State. ‘Onos’ is a philanthropist, a footballer, a hotelier, a mass mobilizer, and he is popularly known to friends and associates, as a man of integrity, a community leader, a Rotarian and a lover of sports in general.”
“I wish to state that, SFC Football Club Warri, a prestigious, family oriented All Stars Football club based in Warri, Delta state, to which Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori is a bonafide member. We wholeheartedly endorse his candidacy for the position of Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission. We support him because he is a perfect fit for the job, based on his capacity, leadership qualities and exposure to sports in general.”
“We are confident that Onos will deliver on the job if appointed Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission. He has a well structured plan for the overall development of Sports in state. “It is on record that Onos is a member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) at the just concluded 8th National Youth Games held in Asaba where host Delta, retained the NYG title. Delta State had a total of 111 medals made up of 46 gold, 31 silver and 34 bronze, with Lagos State coming second with a total of 65, medals, 26 gold, 20 silver and 19 bronze, while Edo State came third with 59 medals, 18 gold, 13 silver and 28 bronze. The victory was the seventh for Team Delta since the Games started in 2013”.
“We are confident that, Onoriode Oborevwori will build on these legacies and sustain the winning momentum of the gifted athletes of Delta State.” Mr. Onobredefe stated.
The Chairman of SFC said, Delta State will become a household name again in youth Sports under Onos’ leadership. “The rebranding will start with School Sports at all levels for male and female teams (e.g. Headmaster’s Cup, Inter Local Government Area Sports Festivals etc.) to discover young talents from all nooks and crannies of the state.”
He assured that, a key aspect of Mr Onoriode’s plan is to rebrand, rebuild and reinvigorate all football teams in the state, both male and female, adding that, there will be structured programmes for the resurrection of youth football at different age grades: U13, U15, U 17, U19, U21. “These teams will feed the state male and female senior teams as well as export talents to the rest of Nigeria and the world.”
“Moreso, the development in sports will cover youth sports development in Swimming, hand ball, volleyball, basketball, indoor sports like squash, badminton and board games which Delta State have comparative advantage.”
He said, with ‘Onos’ as Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, it is envisaged that players will leave their clubs in droves to play for Warri Wolves FC and the team will return to the Premiership, where they rightly belong, nothing that, Warri Wolves FC, an erstwhile household name, is today plying its trade in the lower cadres of the Nigerian Professional Football League.
“A key pivot of His Excellency Chief Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda is Meaningful Development and this forms the core of Onoriode’s agenda to transform sports in Delta State, by focusing relentlessly on the development of sporting talent. Infact, consultations are already in progress with relevant stakeholders in Sports Administration to move Delta state sports to greater heights.” He noted.
