Delta State Deputy Governor Deacon Kingsley Burutu Otuaro has stated that the initiative of the fast rising television station, Waffi TV was in tandem with the State government entrepreneurial programs.
The Delta State Deputy Governor made the statement today in Asaba when he received the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pastor Arex Akemeotubo and the management of Waffi TV on courtesy call in his office.
He said concept like this were what government was looking for in the entrepreneurship. That formal education alone cannot help government solve unemployment challenges.
“We need to enhance the entrepreneurial skills to help reduce scrambling for few job placements”. Otuaro noted.
He advised the leader of the visitors to liaise with the State Commissioner for Information so as to formally articulate what and how the State Government can come in.
Earlier, while giving insights into the vision behind the initiative the CEO of the pidgin Waffi TV Pastor Akemeotubo noted that ”Many Nigerians and Africans at large are unemployed mostly because our society does not impact the needed skills that will enable such skilled individual(s) become self-reliant.
”As such they now depend on white collar jobs that are either not available or too few to go round. Government at different levels have organized skill acquisition programs both for graduates and the general masses but sadly the needed result have not been achieved. This is partly due to the fact that the trainees lack entrepreneurial skills and platforms to showcase what they have learnt.” He said
The CEO of Waffi TV disclosed that sixty (60) selected youths who must be skillful in fashion design, graphics design, singing, hair styling, dancing, shoe making and other innovative skills will slug it out in the skill to stardom house for sixty days.
He said that the contest is opened to all Nigerians that have acquired the skills either formally or informally and all applicants must have attained the age of 18 as at September 2020 noting that the program will be aired on WAFFI TV and other national television stations as well as Social media platforms for 60 days.
Adding that people will be coming from all over the country to Delta State to participate so Waffi TV crew was in Government House to officially inform the State Government and to seek support.
While saying the application form will cost N5000 and the winner will go home with whopping N20m, the CEO assured that those who will not make through the audition will be given free skill training and equipped with all necessary materials .
