The Olotus, (Traditions Youth Leaders) in Ute-Okpu Kingdom, Ika North East Local Government Area, have appealed to the Delta state Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to use his good offices to address the challenges facing the community particularly the construction of Owerre/Elugu Road to ameliorate the sufferings of the people of the area.
The Head of the Olotus, Mr. Olivet Udumeh, made the appeal when the members of the apex community youth body paid a courtesy call on the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu at his country home in Ute-Okpu, IKa North East local Government Area.
Mr Udumeh who described the Owerre/Elugu Road as the busiest internal road in Ika Nation, said the call became imperative as the road has become a death trap as farmers and commuters who ply the route had been involved in one form of accident or the other do to its bad condition.
He appealed that a solid bridge be constructed on Iyiakpa, the river that links Ute-Okpu to Ebu-Ogba, community in Aniocha South Local Government area, arguing that it will boost economic and communal activities between both communities and also facilitate the movement of agricultural produce from the area.
Mr. Udumeh speaking further, said it was proper they informed the Governor that the health center in Ute-Okpu which was originally built to have a resident doctor, was in dire need of government attention, just as he called on the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Police Command to send policemen to the police post built by the community as it currently lacks man power that will adequately meet security challenges confronting the kingdom.
While saying that kingdom played an enormous part in recording the highest vote in the state that led to his re-election (Governor Okowa) the Olotus assured of the kingdom’s support to the government of the day in building a stronger Delta State.
They also commended Mr. Hilary Ibegbulem for his contribution to the development of Ute-Okpu Kingdom, urging him and other political appointees from the kingdom not relent on his oars but to continue to attract more dividends of democracy.
In concluding his speech, Mr. Udumeh pleaded with Comrade Ikeogwu to ensure he gets their message to Governor Okowa and commended him for being a worthy some of Ute-Okpu Kingdom.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Michael Ikeogwu described the appeal of the Ute Youth leaders as germane, as they did not resort to protest to press home their demand.
Comrade Ikeogwu promised to use relevant medium available to get their appeal across to the state Governor, noting that Governor Okowa is widely referred as the road master and it will not take him much to address their road and other challenges.
