The University of Ibadan Alumni Association(UIAA), has elected a new set of executives to run the affairs of the Association for the next 2 years.
The Congress was attended by members across 36 States of the Federation and the FCT held on Saturday, 23rd November, 2026, at the Dame Edith Okowa Auditorium, Dr. Michael Omolayole Alumni Complex, UI, Ibadan.
In his welcome address, the reelected Worldwide President, Prof. Saawua Gabriel Nyityo recounting the mandate of his led Executive Council given by the Congress on the 26th of November, 2022, took the Congress through the memory lane and decried the enormity of the crisis and challenges which occurred since 2022, narrating the various unsuccessful peace efforts made towards ensuring a unifying peace in the Association.
He thanked all members of the association for according them the trust to hold the association together. He expanded his appreciation to the members of the UIAA family.
In the keenly contested UIAA 2024 Election Congress, a young renowned medical practitioner and University teacher, Dr. Irene Akhideno, FMCA Consultant Anaesthesiologist and Intensivist of Ekpoma Chapter scored 78 votes to beat incumbent 1st Vice President and her closest rival, Fidelis Chukwunonye Mbadugha, SAN, of Enugu State Branch, who scored just 28 votes.
Morris Eleri, Esq. Of Abia State Branch was elected the new Worldwide 2nd Vice President after beating the incumbent, Joseph Akaanan, RAS, of Gboko Chapter with 73 votes to 30. Dr Daniel Oghoghovbe of Isoko Chapter also became the new 1st Assistant Secretary when he defeated incumbent Chief Uchemadu Abosi of Abia State Branch with 73 votes to 30, and Chief (Dr.) Oyinade Olujimi Tomori, JP, The Giwa Iyalode of Owu Kingdom, of Ogun State Branch reelected Worldwide Treasurer after scoring 96 votes.
Prof. Sarah Akintola of UI Chapter was also reelected Worldwide Secretary after polling highest votes, just as Dr. Ruth Epochi-Olise was also reelected as the National Financial Secretary with a total of 102 votes. Mr. Wale Alao of Enugu State Branch was elected new 2nd Assistant Secretary.
Publicist Enitan Abel Johngold, ANIPR of Asaba Chapter polled 105 votes to be reelected Worldwide Publicity Secretary, while Ben Chuks Udoh, Esq. of Onitsha Chapter recorded 92 votes to be reelected Worldwide Legal Adviser.
Prof. Helen Adebola of Anambra State Branch was also reelected as the Worldwide Socio Secretary.
Nigerian ace broadcaster, Comrade Christian Obileri of Anambra State Branch pulled the highest votes to emerge Worldwide Executive Officio 1. While Patrick Oyameda of Edo State Branch and Ven. Kayode Ajibare of Ogun State Branch emerged Worldwide Executive Officio 1 and 2.
