The Executive Chairman, Ndokwa West LGA, Chief Goddey Obi-Nzete has charged his political appointees to be serious and committed to duties even as he revealed that transparency and trust have earned him prestige in his public life.
Addressing his appointees during an enlarged meeting in Etua-Etiti, the chairman advised the appointees to be more visible and ensure that they use their offices to promote peace in their communities.
According to Nzete; “I united people during my tenure as secretary of the PDP in the state. It worries me that you as an appointees are not contributing to the system. My dream is to make a difference as a local government chairman.
“We are all in PDP but you know we are facing the biggest opposition the APC in the forthcoming elections. Your role is to convince them to join us. I brought you here to lecture you on what to do. How many of you have been able to show that you are an appointee of Obi-Nzete? What are you doing to furnished me on the security or political situation in your wards because that is why you were appointed.”
Continuing: “What impact are you making in this game? overcoming is allowed in politics. There are pockets of crises here and there but what are you doing to solve the problems. Let us stop crookedness in politics. Concentrate on the little position you are occupying and make impacts. Argue constructively with your leaders or else you are not fit to be in politics.”
The Council Boss noted that some of the appointees doesn’t come to office but only come on pay day, advising them to build themselves in politics and stop junketing.
“People are watching you. As a party man be neutral and if you want to be good politician don’t serve one master. When you misfire in politics it will be difficult for you to retrace your steps. You must respect party leaders but don’t be a stooge to them.” He insisted.
He said it is not easy for one to be recognized and be appointed into a public office even as he challenged them to justify their appointments.
In reminiscent of his political journey thus far he pointed out that transparency and trust have earned him prestige in politics.
“Wake up because the hour has arrived, visit your wards and make impacts. Wake up to your challenges. Don’t condemn any leaders, show them love and respect. Get involved in the wards activities.
“Our agenda and interests as long as 2023 general election is concerned is centred on governor Okowa hence we should wait for his direction and leadership. As a governor he should be in the position to direct us on who will succeed him. Okowa is our governor, our leader and we must support him to finish strong and direct us on who succeed him.” He noted.
On their parts, some of the appointees commended the chairman’s magnanimity and pledge a complete change of attitude towards their duties.
