Vice President of Nigeria Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has disclosed that traditional institutions has been instrumental in keeping the peace and security of the Nation.
Prof. Osinbajo stated this yesterday in Effurun when he paid a courtesy visit to the Ovie of Uvwie, Kingdom. HRM Dr. Emmanuel E.Sideso, Abe 1, (JP) OON, Uvwie Local Government Area Delta State.
The Vice President who was accompanied by the Delta State Deputy Governor Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, noted that the desire by traditional rulers to be part of government and governance is genuine and expressed hope that it should be attended to by the National Assembly.
According to him, “Going by the track records here in Uvwie, and other part of Delta State, the traditional rulers role has been instruments in the peace and security of the State. This is alluded to the fact that, traditional institution is door to keeping the peace at the grassroot”. Prof. Osinbajo stated.
While commending the role of traditional rulers in peace building in their various domain, Prof. Osinbajo assured that the federal government will look into the issues raised and see how best to deliver on some of those issues mentioned.
The Delta State Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, noted that traditional rulers play very significant role in the develooement of the various communities.
According to him, there has been a very strong collaboration between traditional institutions and the Delta State Government. He call on the federal government to give traditional institution a greater pride of place in order them to steer the ship of state in the country.
Earlier, the Ovie of Uvwie, HRM Dr. Emmanuel E.Sideso, Abe 1, (JP) OON who is also the Chairman of National Traditional Rulers Summit Forum, appeal to the federal government to look into the constitutional role of traditional rulers in governanace.
He expressed worries that despite the challenges been faced by traditional rulers at the grassroot, the traditional rulers role was not attended to in the constitutional amendment by the National Assembly.
The Ovie of Uvwie commended the governor of Delta State Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and his Deputy Barr. Kingsley Otuaro for all they have been doing for Uvwie kingdom and Delta State in general.
Also, the the place of the Olu of Warri, the Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo called on the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 111, to use his wealth of experience in the oil and gas sector to ensure more development and relative peace in the oil producing communities in his domain and the Niger Delta at large.
Prof. Osinbajo while congratulating the Olu of Warri on his assention to the throne, enjoined him to ensure that peace and security prevail in the kingdom especially in oil host communities. He added that the nation’s mainstay is the oil revenue and as such it is important for the traditional stool to promote peace between the people and oil companies operating in the region.
The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 111, in his remark assured that Vice President of the kingdom’s collaboration with the federal and State government in ensuring peace and security for the development of the nation and Warri kingdom.
Ogiame Atuwatse 111, noted that Warri kingdom has always remain peaceful, adding that there is the need for deeper exporation of the oil and gas sector for more development to thrive in the kingdom.
