President Bola Tinubu has directed the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to establish committees aimed at reconciling aggrieved party members.
According to a report by ThisDay newspaper, the president issued the directive during the NEC meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja, emphasising the need for unity within the ruling party.
Notably absent from the meeting were several high-profile party members, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, and former Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
Addressing the absence of some party leaders, Tinubu stated: “As far as I know, I have never seen a caucus or NEC meeting of our party attended 100 percent by all members. I am not sure there is any political party where such meetings have full attendance.”
He further explained that the party schedules its NEC meetings based on the president’s availability, given his busy itinerary.
“Rest assured that every member of the caucus and NEC was invited. The list of members today was comprehensive. In fact, we expanded the list for this meeting and invited more members than in previous sessions,” he said
