The Delta State Government has called on Men and Officers of the Nigeria Police Force to do all within their power to uphold the Constitutional Oath by stepping of their game, boost their moral to ensuring that the constitutional responsibility bestowed on them to protect lives and property in Delta State and Nigeria at large is not religated to the background.
The Delta State Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, made the call yesterday in Asaba when the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Zone ‘5’, Sholla David, visited the Delta State Command.
Barr. Otuaro, who noted that, the basic responsibility of governance is to protect lives and property, said, policies and programmes of government will be hindered when proper attention to the phenomenon of security in Delta State.
According to him, the State government against this backdrop has constituted various peace and conflicts resolution institution to support the Police force in ensuring that the State is adequately secured.
The deputy governor, who noted that government will continue to support the police, commended Officers and men of the Delta State Police Command in curbing criminal activities and ensuring that lives and property are secured in the State.
According to him; “Delta is a very complex state and the police is doing its best in ensuring ethnic harmony and security in the State.
Barr. Otuaro who noted that the EndSARS protest was a huge challenge to men of the Nigeria Police force, ecourage them to see the challenge as one of the phenomenon of life. According to him; ” The work of the police is like a football goal keeper in a match, who has been doing a lot by saving goals but will take a very serious backlash from the fan and people when he evetually made a mistake and allowed a goal to be scored”.
Barr. Otuaro, while commending the Delta State Command for the recovery of various arms and ammunition from criminal elements in the State, onbehalf of the State government presented certificate of commendation to some officers and men of the police for their delegent and for doing the state proud.
The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Zone ‘5’, Mr. Sholla David while fielding question from newsmen, said the visit to the Delta State Command was to hold a meeting and interact with the officers and men of the command.
The AIG said the visit is also to boost the moral of the officers against the wake of the recent EndSARS protest and encourage them to step up their game ensuring that the society is secured and safe.
He noted that, community policing is also a way forward in addressing security challenges, adding that, community policing with effective collaboration with the Police will go a long way in stamping out criminal elements in the society.
Earlier, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP, Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa in his remark, commended the Delta State government for its support to the Command. According to him, Delta is rated as one of the best in assisting the Police when the need arises.
CP Inuwa assured that the men of the Delta State Command will continue to ensure the security of lives and property of residents in the State.
According to him, the meeting with the AIG bothers on security situation especially with the yuletide period, saying the there are usually a spike in criminal activities.
The CP noted that the command in the fight against crime has recovered many arms and ammunition from criminal elements in the society.
