To cushion the effect of the stay-at-home order directed by the Delta State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, as a result of the lockdown geared at containing the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic, hope was given to the elderly men and women in Ugboroke Community, Uvwie local government area of the state.
Addressing the aged women and men on Monday, the reporter with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Asaba, Rita Elohor Agbra, disclosed that she was in the community to contribute her quota to humanity as government cannot do it all alone.
According to the seasoned journalist, who reoriented the people on the need the state government ordered for the stay-at-home, noted that it was for the government to curb the spread of the epidemic.
Her words: “the government has asked us to Stay-at-home because of the Coronavirus. It kills the old, young, rich and the poor. That is why the government said we should stay at home”.
She charged them to maintain personal hygiene and social distancing, washing of their hands regularly with soap, avoid gathering as measures put in place to stop the spread of the dreaded killer disease.
The unwavering journalist, educated the people on the insistence of government on the need for them to stay-at-home while government fight to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
While noting that the state government has paliative for the people in the 25 local government areas, she said: “But I cannot leave my fathers and mothers to hunger, that is why I have come to give the little that I could”, pleading with them to manage whatever gets to them.
The items distributed to them includes tubers of yam, packs of indomie noodles and rice.
Each of them got a bucket of rice, one tuber of yam and 10 packs of Indomie noodles to cushion the effect of the stay-at-home order.
Mrs. Elizabeth and others who spoke, expressed joy over the items given to them and prayed God to protect and bless the work of her hands.
