The State Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro has identified sports as a veritable platform to discover and harness hidden talents in youths to enable them maximise their God given talents in securing a better life.
Decon Otuaro stated this at Kurutie,Warri South West Local Government Area during the final of the maiden edition of the Gbaramatu King’s cup football competition.
The Deputy Governor said Delta State had abundant natural talents and thanked Nigeria former super eagles and ex international Christian Obodo for his contribution to sports development in riverine communities.
He said discovering and catching young talents was key in sports development stressing that the efforts of the organisers has awaken the consciousness of youths that with talent they could change their lives.
Deacon Otuaro urged youths to shun any involvement in unwholesome activities and embrace productive ventures adding that they should emulate Christian Obodo who made Nigeria proud during his days in the super eagles and in foreign club engagements.
The Deputy Governor said he was happy to know that about twenty youths have been identified during the football competition for trials.
Deacon Otuaro urged all well meaning sons and daughters of Gbaramatu and Deltans to add value to their communities by contributing to different sectors of the State such as sports, agriculture,science and technology among others.
The Deputy Governor commended the winner of the competition Tebujor football club stressing that he was impressed with the skills displayed by the players and the officials.
Nigeria former super eagles and ex international,Christian Obodo said some talents have been identified and would sit with his team to ensure that such talents see the limelight in foreign soils .
He lauded the Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro for his interest and support for sports development.
Ten football teams representing ten communities of Gbaramatu kingdom featured in the competition which saw Success football club and Tebujor football club slugging it out in the final.
Tebujor FC beat Success FC four two in a penalty shoot out after ninety minutes of play while Okerenkoko FC came out third place in the competition.
The member representing Warri South West constituency in the State House of Assembly,Honourable Emomotimi Guwor,the PDP Chairman Warri South West Local Government Area,Honourable Favour Izoukomor and palace chiefs from Gbaramatu kingdom and other sports enthusiasts watched the match
The highlight of the event was the presentation of medals and trophy to the winner,Tebujor football club.
