Association of Southwest Igbo Town Unions (ASWITU) has made the registration of permanent voter card mandatory for its members ahead of 2023 general elections.
The group in a communiqué jointly signed by Prince Erondu Uche, the President General and Nze Emeka Enwereonye, the Secretary General after its stakeholders meeting held on April 3, 2022 in Oshogbo, Osun state said that it’s members without PVC who fail to register in the ongoing voter card registration will be expelled from the group by June 1, 2022.

COMMUNIQUÉ

Association of Southwest Igbo Town Unions (ASWITU), the umbrella body of all Igbo town unions, village meetings, associations, political groups, women and youth groups in Southwest Nigeria, wishes to inform her members and Igbos in general of the following decisions taken at ASWITU’s stakeholders meeting held today April 3, 2022 in Oshogbo, Osun state.
These decisions were taken in the best interest of all Igbos both at home and abroad and should be encouraged by all.
1. That Igbos living in Southwest Nigeria and others in the Diaspora should continue to be law abiding citizens wherever they live, work or do their legitimate businesses.
2. That ASWITU will before 2023 general elections take a stand on the Presidential Candidate to support, in line with Igbo interest, irrespective of political party affiliation.
3. That It is now compulsory for all ASWITU members who are 18 years and above (male & female) and those whose parent (s) are members of ASWITU to have permanent voter cards (PVC).
4. That any member of ASWITU who does not have permanent voter card or fails to show evidence of being registered in the ongoing permanent voter card registration before or by June 1, 2022 will be expelled and all benefits due to him or her forfeited.
5. That From June 1, 2022, implementation of sanctions at all levels will commence.
6. That all Igbo town unions, village meetings, associations, market unions, political groups, women groups, youth groups, social clubs in Southwest Nigeria, should ensure strict compliance of this directive.
7. That all Igbo groups in the Diaspora are advised to join ASWITU in this project which is geared towards promoting Igbo interest and a better society.
8. That this communiqué should be made available to all Igbos within and outside Nigeria.
9. That Igbo Political leaders, Traditional leaders, Religious leaders, Patriots, Friends of Ndi-Igbo and the Press are advised to widely distribute this communiqué.
