Civil society organisations (CSO) in Delta State have been urged to continuously sensitise families and individuals to join the fight of eradicating malaria from the state.
Society For Family Health stated this during its quarterly meeting in Asaba.
The Programme Manager for Malaria in Delta State, Dr. Mrs Julie Aniah, said that “for us to get a malaria free state, there is serious need for everybody to join the fight, for the office cannot do it alone.”
She added that “they should consider the health of the people in the society who are dying daily of malaria infections.”
She stressed on the use of the mosquitoe nets as so many
collected the nets, but had not used them to avoid the bites of mosquitoes which could later lead to malaria infections.
Dr. Aniah enjoined the Local Health Promotion officers of the need to adequately distribute the nets to areas of need for effective utilisation in other to bring malaria to zero level in the state and Nigeria at large.
According to her, “any hinterland that does not get sufficient commodities should request timely for supply ”
The behavioural change Communication Advisor for Society for Family Health, Mr. Mercy Momoh, thanked the government of Delta State for the immense commitment in the distribution of the nets and other commodities across the state to enhance healthy living in the state.
Mrs Momoh revealed that they had gone from house to house, using interpersonal conductors to educate people on the importance of sleeping under the nets every night and making the environment neat so that mosques would not have breeding sites.
She encouraged the non-governmental organisations to be more proactive in applying various healthcare techniques in intensifying efforts to totally kick malaria away from the state.
12 Health Promotion officers and five civil society organisations were present at the meeting.
