As parts of the activities lined up for the Celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD), the members of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS) aka Pyrates Confraternity, Vito Corsica Deck is celebrating women allover the world especially in Delta State with a TV talk show on Delta Television, Channel 115, Startime cable.
According to the Cap’n of Vito Corsica Deck,Dr. John Emethilue, the theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19 World’ while this year’s topic for discourse is ‘BEYOND THE OTHER ‘ROOM: Exploring the Leadership Potentials of Women in a COVID-19 World’
Emethilue added that “to do justice to the topic, the Delta State Chapter Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Comrade Patricia Gbemudu and the State International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Public Relations Officer, Barr. Vivian Onukwufor, have been selected alongside a member of NAS as discussants.
“The discourse, we believe, will proffer solutions to build forward better from the Covid-19 crisis, and to get the Global Goals firmly back on track. It is time to finally fully harness the power of women’s leadership to realize a more equal, more inclusive and more sustainable future for our women”. The Cap’n of Vito Corsica Deck the Pyrates Confraternity noted.
He disclosed that Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, D-G of World Trade Organization, Ameenah Gurib Fakim, former President of Mauritius, President Sahle-Work Zewde, of Ethiopia and the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations were recognized in this year’s celebration.
IWD is celebrated on 8 March around the world. It is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights. A global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
IWD, which also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people.
