WORLD AIDS DAY: In commemoration of this year World AIDS Day, the National Association of Seadogs aka Pyrates Confraternity, Vito Corsica Deck sensitized several truck drivers in Delta North about the spread of HIV/ AIDS. The main objective of the sensitization was to educate uneducated and underprivileged truck Drivers and their helpers about the spread of HIV/AIDS .
The event which started with screening of different ailments and sensitization about the prevention and advocacy on AIDS, was conducted at major highways where there were big footfalls of truck drivers.
The NAS medical team also counseled the beneficiaries about the AIDS preventive measures. And also distributed health palliatives and male contraceptives with informative leaflets and pamphlets to the trailer and truck drivers at the various garages mostly those located at Umunede, Ubulu Okiti and Asaba after counselling session.
While preaching abstinence to sexual activities outside one’s spouse, the members of NAS led by the Capoon of the Vito Corsica Deck, Dr. John Emethilue noted that abstinence and faithfulness to one’s partner can prevent one from contracting the virus as it’s not written on the face.
The group sensitized the drivers and those living within, on the need to use protection during sexual activities outside one’s spouse if one find it difficult to abstain from it. Adding that the correct use of the protections will also reduce the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
“We are blessed with kind people like you, who provide everything free of cost to us and who take care of our health.” – stated one of the beneficiaries who benefitted from the free health Programs the National Association of Seadogs conducted for the truck drivers and their helpers at Umunede along the Benin – Asaba Expressway Road.
The beneficiaries acknowledged NAS efforts to sensitize the urban and rural group that travels across the country.
