In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, the Vito Corsica Deck (Aniocha/Oshimili and Ika Federal Constituencies) of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS), Pyrates Confraternity, in collaboration with the Blizzard Deck (Boston and environs, USA), took to the streets of Asaba in a rally advocating for the protection, empowerment, and rights of women.
The rally, which commenced at 10 a.m. from the Vito Corsica Deck Anchor Point off Okpanam Road, saw members of the Seadogs, led by Deck Capoon, Comrade Michael Chukwuma Nwaidei, stopping at strategic locations to spread awareness. The group distributed educational materials to motorists and pedestrians while emphasizing this year’s IWD theme: “Accelerate Action”—a call for gender equality, dignity, and freedom for women.

Adding a dynamic touch to the event, several women driving along the rally route were so inspired that they parked their cars and joined the march, further amplifying the message of solidarity and action.

In an interview, Comrade Nwaidei reiterated the Pyrates Confraternity’s commitment to gender justice, stating:“Today, we take a moment to celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and achievements of women worldwide. Women deserve to be honoured—not just on this day but every day—because their contributions have shaped societies, economies, and governance globally.”

He also highlighted the pressing issues women face in Nigeria, including gender-based violence, underrepresentation in governance, and inadequate maternal healthcare.
Despite women making up nearly half of the population, their representation in political decision-making remains significantly low, falling short of the 35% national gender policy target. NAS challenged policymakers, asking:“How many women are in the Delta State House of Assembly?”

The rally, which attracted many onlookers and participants, reinforced the importance of creating inclusive spaces for women in leadership, politics, and economic growth. The Pyrates Confraternity vowed to continue championing the rights of women and called on all stakeholders to take action in accelerating gender equality.

With their impactful walk through Asaba, the Seadogs sent a powerful message—that the fight for women’s rights is not just a cause but a collective responsibility that demands urgent action.

Appreciating everyone’s roll at the end of the rally, the Vito Corsica Deck Capoon, Michael Chukwuma Nwaidei commended the supports from the various women group that joined the Seadogs rally for women’s rights. Saying their presence spiced up the show. “Fifty -Fifty Action Women, Women Charity Aid Foundation, FIDA (Women Lawyers) and others I thank all of una o! Una too much. Women oye!
