Property worth several millions of naira at the General Hospital, Agbor- Alidinma in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State has been destroyed by heavy rainstorm.
The storm which preceded the rain had left several roofs and windows at the hospital and other buildings in the community in sorry situation.
According to one of the nurses who was on duty, Mrs. Josephine Okwuchi, “we thought the end of the world has come, as the windy situation was beyond imagination.”
“Although, no life was lost, some hospital workers sustained minor injuries in the process of rescuing some patients on Admittion. We were really rattled. You can imagine the fear and shock,” she stated.
Continuing, Mrs.Okwuchi called for immediate response by the state government as the community and it’s environs relied on the hospital for medicare.
“We are helpless. All our properties and working tools are at risk, some of which have been damaged,” she added.
Also speaking, the Councillor representing Ward 7, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta, Hon. Victor Njoetene, described the incident as unfortunate.
He said that the hospital was the only major health facility the in the area and called on the state government, groups and well to do members of the society to come to their aid.
“The community has started feeling the negative impacts of the disaster as people with health challenges are stranded. This hospital is the only health care facility in this whole area,” he added.
“If nothing is done within days, it may result to chaos. I am pleading to all sons and daughters and the state state government to rescue our community from imminent health danger,” he stated.
The affected facilities at the hospital included the laboratory, out-patients and maternity wards, electric poles and wires suplying power to the staff lodge and doctor quarters.
As at the time of filling this report, the hospital has been deserted because of the incident
