National Association Of Seadogs (NAS), Pyrates Confraternity, Vito Corsica Deck, Delta North Chapter, has called on all Deltans to avail themselves the opportunity of active participation in the forthcoming general elections.
The Vito Corsica Deck Cap’n, Mr. Oghenekaro Ukavwe made the call at the second phase of the NAS, ‘Our Votes Count (OVC) Citizens’ Summit Platform sensitization campaign on Voters Education organized by the Deck in Asaba, Agbor Illah and Ogwashi-Uku over the weekend.
Mr. Ukavwe who led members of the association on voters education campaign walk along major streets of Oshimili/Aniocha and Ika axis, advised the public against collecting money from politicians in form of inducement during the forthcoming general elections.
According to him, collecting money from politicians in form of inducement during elections is motivating them not to provide the electorates with the required social amenities when they eventaully gain elective positions.
Cap’n, Ukavwe, noted that, the importance of voter education cannot be over emphasized, especially in ensuring free, fair and credible elections.
The Capn who enjoined politicians to shun the act of character assasination and focus attention on their manifestos during their campaigns for peaceful conduct of the general elections, attributed the low turnout of electorate during the previous elections to inadequate voter education sensitization. He added that, the campaign is to ensure the electorate’s active involvement in electoral process.
Also, the First Mate of the Vito Corsica Deck, Dr. J.B Emethilue, identified poverty as one of the factors responsible for votes buying and described good governance as a remedy for addressing the challenges militating against the development of the nation’s political system.
While assuring the readiness of the Pyrates Confraternity to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to address votes buying and other malpractices during elections, Dr. Emethilue emphasized the need for regular sensitization on voter education and electoral process for active participation of the citizens.
