Vice Chancellor University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowals says poor funding is affecting the smooth running of universities in the country.
Professor Adebowale made this known when he received the former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Amb. Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai (rtd), CFR at the university.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Ezekiel Ayoola, Professor Adebowale observed that National Service Lecture being organized by the University of Ibadan Alumni Association Worldwide has added value to increase in knowledge of the people.
He noted that the university has remained outstanding in its performance among tertiary institutions in Nigeria, saying that it has maintained it’s premier position and seventh in Africa in the recent university ranking.
The UI VC spoke of the enduring collaboration with the outside world aimed at charting a good understanding especially with the gown and town which had remained symbiotic.
Professor Adebowale commended Rtd Lieutenant General Buratai for his outstanding military service to the nation while eulogizing him for his diplomatic duties as diplomat.
Earlier, Rtd Lieutenant General Buratai had informed the VC that he was in Ibadan to deliver the second stanza of the 2023 National Service Lecture of the alumni association of the institution.
He equally appreciated the giant achievements by University of Ibadan since inception having produced quality manpower who have distinguished themselves in different spheres of human endeavours.
The former Chief of Army Staff, who was accompanied by traditional rulers cut across the country, top military personnel, captains of industries, politicians and many other top Nigerians to delivered the UIAA Worldwide 2023 2nd Stanza National Public Service Lecture, and his team was led to the Vice Chancellor’s office by the UIAA Worldwide President, Prof. Gabriel Saawua Nyityo.
