The need for public office holders to effectively affect lives with their positions has been emphasized.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, Comrade Churchill Oyowe made this known when he led the state working committee on a assessment tour to the chairman of Aniocha South Local Govt Area, Pastor Jude Chukwuike today in Ogwashi-uku.
Comrade Oyowe noted that “as watchdogs of the society, the media will continue to encourage public office holders and others to remain committed to oath of office they swore to”.
He commended the chairman for embarking on people’s oriented projects and for making the people’s welfare a priority.
He encouraged the Aniocha South council boss not to derail from the good deeds in order to leave lasting legacies for the benefit of the people..
While reiterating that the union was interested in the welfare of Deltans, Comrade Oyowe said the media would not support office holders not willing to spread the dividends of democracy to their representatives.
The Chairman Aniocha South Chairman said the people’s welfare was a priority in his administration saying in-spite of the challenges being faced as a result of fuel subsidy removal ,the council had installed solar power lights in the secretariat to address electricity issues.
Pastor Chukwuinke listed other projects embarked upon by his administration which were spread to all parts of the council to include payment of outstanding claims, purchase of motor cycles to vigilantes to address insecurity in remote areas, provision of monthly stipends for vigilantes, renovation of the council’s lodge, grading of roads across the area,construction of a health centre fully equipped, renovation of the council’s complex,ongoing traditional rulers complex, ongoing legislative complex amongst others.
He commended his management team and staff of the council for their support and promised to do more for the people.
