In an appeal for a sense of belonging, the good people of Ogbeisogban Community in Abavo, Ika South Local Government Area have called on the former governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to fulfill the promise he made to them to construct the only major road in their community which cut across the neigbouring villages of Edo State.
Speaking in a chat with newsmen, the Chairman, Ogbeisogban Rinma, Mr. Bright Ewere Omorogbe, also known as, De Don lamented that their Ogbeisogban Community has been grossly marginalized by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in the area of distribution of dividends of democracy.
“Our hope for the construction of the only major road in Ogbeisogban Community leading to Otobaye Community in Edo State became a dream yet to materialize after the eight years governorship tenure of our big brother, uncle, father and leader, Senator Okowa, who is maternally from Abavo failed to keep the promise he made to construct the road.
“Despite our loyalty, the PDP government has continued to use Ogbeisogban/Otobaye road to campaign for votes and thereafter, abandoned us. After the expiration of Okowa’s government, we still appeal to him as father to the current Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to come and fulfill the promise to give us a sense of belonging.
“We are passionately begging Okowa to remember us by fulfilling his promise now that Ogbeisogban Rinma has embarked on self-help measures to make the road passable.
“In recent times, palliative measures on the road cost us a lot of money which was realized from contributions made by Ogbeisogban sons and daughters at home and the Diaspora under the umbrella of Ogbeisogban Rinma. We are therefore, calling on the Delta State government to complement our efforts by constructing the road with two-side drainages that will contain the high volume of flood in the area”, he appealed.
Continuing, Mr. Omorogbe extended his appeal to the Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and an illustrious son of Ika South LGA, Barr. Chiedu Ebie to come to their aid, saying that the road when constructed would boost the economy of their farm business and enhance the standard of living of the people.
Lending their voices for further appeal, two chiefs of Ogbeisogban Community, the Onyewekwuihiewemene of Abavo Kingdom Chief Monday Morka and Ezewen Nwata of Abavo Kingdom, Chief Odeh Bintu Obayetin expressed satisfaction and thanks to the Ogbeisogban children under the aegis of Ogbeisogban Rinma for the good work done in the community.
According to them, “Our children in Ogbeisogban Rinma have continued to wipe our tears. They have done so much to provide us accessible roads. First, was the construction of the river bridge and now, they are spending much money on palliative measures to repair the devastating Ogbeisogban road cutting across neigbouring communities in Edo State. The group went as far as hiring the services of different tractors to bulldoze the road and bought several trips of sand for the filling so that the road would last.
“Before now, the devastating Ogbeisogban road which is erosion-prone has claimed lives. We want to also lend our voices to that of Ogbeisogban Rinma to Okowa, Governor Oborevwori, and Ebie to come to our aid”.
