President General of Ovwian Community, Udu Local Government Area, Hon. Alfred Urukpe has sends ‘Save Our Soul’ plea to the Governor of Delta state and security agencies over the continues killings and maiming of youths by suspected cultists.
In a press briefing at his office, Ovwian town hall, Hon. Urukpe stated that cult clashes has been a menace in Ovwian and neighbouring communities.
He noted that adequate security of life and properties was the cardinal point of his campaign promises to the people of Ovwian community.
“And in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s drive for community policing, I set up a security committee headed by the Vice President General and a Toyota Siena Bus was provided for them for smooth operation which brought about relative peace in the community until the recent cult clashes.
“Over 20 persons have been killed in Ovwian, Ekete, Ujevwu, Owhase, Orhuwhorun and other neighbouring communities in Udu LGA as a result of cult clashes”, he lamented.
Urukpe appealed to the Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, Chairman of Udu LGA, Hon. Jite Brown and the security agencies to energize the security architecture for proper security.
According to him, people can no longer go about their normal businesses in the urbanized part of Udu LGA for fear of being harassed, robbed or killed.
While pointing out failure of the police to respond to distress call on excuse of faulty vans and vehicles, he advised the state government to reconstitute the police anti-cult group to put a stop to the menance.
