Not less than 402 patients benefitted from the exclusive free medical outreach organized at Ezi town in Aniocha North Local Government Area (LGA), of Delta State, by OMIWA Foundation in collaboration with Anioma Medical Professionals Forum (AMPF) On Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th October, 2023.
The Medical Outreach was flagged-Offoff by the Delta State Commissioner For Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, ably represented by Dr. Matthew Anibor, Deputy Director, Medical Services and Training Department.
Partnering with AMPF, OMIWA Foundation is into humanitarian services which specializes in health care delivery. They are out to check the health status of rural and community duellers and administer free medical services and free drugs to them.
Commending the organizers, the Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Hon. Engr. Emeka Nwaobi, said the medical mission is a routine project of OMIWA Foundation in collaboration with the AMPF.
“For the past two years and half, I have followed the activities of OMIWA Foundation and can attest to their humanitarian services with regards to providing access to free medical treatments and surgeries in various localities of Delta North Senatorial District.
I wish to use this medium to congratulate the Monarch of Ezi Kingdom, HRM Agbogidi Obi Mohanye and the people of Ezi community who have benefitted immensely from the free medical services of OMIWA Foundation a third time now.” The Lawmaker representing Aniocha North Constituency asserted.
Also at the flagged-Off ceremony was the Council Chairman of Aniocha North LGA, Hon. Kevin Okwechime, who in his speech promised to drill a water borehole within the coming week in Ezi community to give the residents drinking water.
Okwechime, who paid a visit to His Royal Majesty, Obi Mohanye 1, the Obi of Ezi Kingdom that hosted the medical outreach at his palace ground, pledged to provide security and gardner for Ezi Healthcare centres and assured the kingdom of quality teachers in the primary school once employment is done.
The Obi of Ezi appreciated OMIWA Foundation and AMPF for their grassroots based health initiatives that had wriggled many out of the bondage of health challenges without money to go for treatment.
Obi Mohanye 1 called on government, corporate organisations and well meaning individuals to support the efforts of these NGOs mainstreaming free rural health initiatives for the benefit of the poor local masses; insisting that OMIWA Foundation and AMPF deserve accolades from every community they had positively touched in Anioma Nation.
The President of AMPF, and leader of the medical team to Ezi for the OMIWA Foundation Medical Outreach, Dr. Alexander Awunor, who painstakingly took the Council Boss (Hon. Kelvin Okwechime) round inspecting the service delivery by other doctors, pediatricians, Optometrists and other specialists that were administering services to the patients, gave thanks to God for the grace, ability and strength to carry out these medical missions whenever there is call for humanitarian service.
He said in spite of the herculean task of discharging his duties as a medical doctor to his employer, he and others in his team still find the inner urge and passion to give back to society in the aspect of attending to their health needs.
In his remarks, the Project Coordinator of OMIWA Foundation, Mr. Tohan Okenyi, noted that through OMIWA Foundation several Free Medical missions in various communities in Delta state, the NGOs have been able to affect lives positively.
“Carrying out medical outreaches to alleviate the health challenges of people in our communities is a divine vision and mission. It is an expensive venture, tasking and enduring; but we are pleased to engage in it.” He added.
Okenyi, who commended the expertises of the AMPF Medical Team led by Dr. Alex Awunor, on behalf of OMIWA Foundation, expressed appreciation to Engr. Eugene Mesike, Mr. Paul George Osondu AKA Jesus Boy, Ogbuenyi, Omeaku Augustine Ogochukwu Amagoh and Onyejose Ifechukwude Eric, the President General (PG) of Ezi Development Union.
The OMIWA Foundation Coordinator specially thanked the President, Vice President and Board Members of OMIWA Foundation for their selfless contributions and efforts in sustaining the rural areas free medical outreaches of the NGO.
This Newspaper gathered that services rendered within the 2-day outreach were: Consultation and Counselling, Laboratory Tests (Blood Sugar, Hepatitis B), Drug Distribution, Eye Screening and Dispensing of Lenses, Health Talk on Nutrition and Disease Conditions.
