A Delta State PDP Guber aspirant for the 2023 elections, Olorogun David Edevbie, has charged his teeming supporters not to write or publish any destructive reports against any aspirant in retaliation to the fake news perpetrated by his critics.
Olorogun Edevbie, a gentleman to the core, appealed to his supporters and well-wishers at his Afiesere-Ughelli Country Home at the weekend while chatting with journalists on the negative political campaign strategies being employed by some politicians in the State.
The cultured, calm and experienced three times Commissioner for Finance in Delta State said he was not surprised by the deplorable tactics being deployed by some through perpetrating fake and hate news reports in the media.
He urged his supporters to sustain the high level of decency in their news reports and focus on issues, in line with the peaceful method adopted by his campaign team, despite various provocative and fake news reports against him in the media space recently.
Olorogun David Edevbie told his supporters that he has an intimidating track record and pedigree good enough to market him and asked his campaign team to spread the good news about his many achievements since 1999 rather than recognise his opponents by trading insults with them in the media.
He observed that he has no need to decend to such primordial levels of fake news or destroying billboards. He noted that the campaign of calumny is typical of those who only know how to destroy and not build. According to Edevbie “when two are arguing and one suddenly throws a punch, you immediately know who has lost the argument”.
The seasoned administrator also urged the media, especially social media, to practice ethical journalism by authenticating their facts before publishing to avoid defaming the characters of innocent people with their reports.
Olorogun Edevbie said those trying to tarnish his good image through fake news are actually helping him to gain prominence in the public domain, as every good Deltan knows that he is a goldfish that has no hiding place in Delta State.
He asserted that all the gubernatorial aspirants in the State have equal opportunities to win the race to Government House, Asaba in 2023 and advised supporters of other aspirants to shun the campaign of calumny against him or any other Guber aspirant in the State.
According to Olorogun David Edevbie, “fake news against any aspirant does not affect only that aspirant, but it also negatively affects the good image of our great party in the State, which could cost the PDP its usual victory at the polls. He commended the incumbent Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, for creating a level playing ground for all aspirants to democratically contest for the governorship seat.
