Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa has applauded FIFA and NFF for siting an international stadium in the riverine area of the State.
Governor Okowa, represented by his Deputy Deacon Kingsley Otuaro performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the 750 capacity mini stadium at Ugborodo Community in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Okowa opined that the facility which is strategically located at Ugborodo Community will have a multiplier effect on the economy and also benefit the neighbouring communities and the state at large.
Advising the community to give its full support to the actualisation of the project, the Delta State Governor emphasized the undaunted commitment of his led administration to the monumental project.
“We want to thank FIFA for this laudable project. I’m delighted by the strategic location of the project. We cannot over emphasize the relevance of a project like this, how it is going to build capacity, talent, harmony and sports development in the locality.”
“As a state we will ensure that we add in our prospective budget contract of the construction of the access road leading to the stadium”. He stated
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the tremendous support and hospitality accorded them to make the project successful.
While commending Governor Okowa for the support of getting Certificate of Occupancy (Cof O) at no cost within a short time, Amaju disclosed that the FIFA International Stadium Ugborode was the first in the country.
The NFA boss added that FIFA was a very thorough organisation and the building plan and approval were already acquired to hit the ground running.
“This is a staduim that will not only bring harmony to the Ugborodo community but to neighbouring communities.
It is a stadium of international standard. The stadium is expected to be completed and ready for inauguration in six months.” He stated
