Retirement from the civil service, has been described by the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as an opportunity for the retiree to use his wealth of experience to contribute to the growth of humanity using different platforms.
Oborevwori, made the observation on Saturday at the 60th birthday anniversary and retirement from civil service thanksgiving of Mr Cornelius Semiteje, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Delta State.
The thanksgiving Mass took place at the Catholic Church of the Assumption, Zappa, Asaba.
According to Oborevwori who spoke through his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, the experience garnered by retirees could be useful in other progressive endeavours.
He said, “today, we are glad to join you, our brother in this celebration of a milestone in your life, your successful retirement from the Delta State Civil Service and clocking 60 years in good health and sound state of mind.
“We thank God for preserving you.
“Retirement, marks the end of a journey in the civil service and from you look, your agility, it is very obvious that you see your retirement as a great blessing and that is why you are here to give thanks to God.
“It is the right thing to do, thanking God for His goodness at all times.
“No doubt, with the experience that you have garnered over the years, I am confident that this is the beginning of another journey of rendering service to God through serving humanity.
“You should continue to engage yourself in the things that you love doing and even explore those areas that you couldn’t dare to go into as a civil servant.
“On behalf of my family, the government and good people of Delta State, I congratulate you on your successful retirement from service and thank you for serving our dear State, Delta.”
In a sermon titled, “Service in Humility and Simplicity,” Rev. Fr. Andrew Anah, congratulated, Semiteje on his retirement from service after attaining the diamond age of sixty.
He said that in spite of the position of the retired Permanent Secretary, he was humble in his service to God in church and to humanity and charged Christians to serve God with all they have .
Highlight of the service was thanksgiving by Semiteje and family joined by dignitaries which included the Secretary, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Delta State, Engr. Dan Ossai.
