Delta State Government has partnered with the European Investment Bank (EIB) – assisted project through the provision of N1 billion counterpart funding to combat erosion menace in ravaging erosion communities in the state.
The State Commissioner, Ministry of Environment, Mr. Ejiro Tommy Jamani, stated this when he appeared as guest on NTA TVU pack live outing, at the gully head of the Amachai/Ogbeozoma Erosion Site, Okpanam, today.
The Commissioner who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. (Mrs.) Minnie Oseji, said the funding was geared towards guaranteeing environmental sustainability in the state.
He said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has no doubt, brought succour to the erosion community of Okpanam by the prioritization of the two erosion sites of Amachai/Ogbozoma and Vanguard Area through the payment of the counterpart fund that qualified Delta State for the EIB assisted project.
Jamani, said in addition to the provision of N1billion counterpart funding, the governor also provided three hundred million naira funding for its engineering designs and presentation displayed before stakeholders.
He said government’s effort towards enhancing the infrastructural and socio-economic lives of the people living along the erosion corridors was beginning to yield results following the presentation of the engineering designs of the two approved sites.
According to him, the visitation of the Federal Project Management Team of NEWMAP, led by the National Project Coordinator, Engr. Anda Ayuba-Yalaks was a pointer that Delta State was one hundred percent disbursement ready for the EIB project, which is expected to commence implementation after the official launch of the Project in April, 2025.
The Environment Commissioner, however, called on the people to support the MORE agenda mantra of the state government and cooperate with would-be contractors that work in their domain.
