Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has ordered the audit of physical infrastructure in public schools.
Oborevwori made the disclosure in an address read on his behalf by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme at the handover to the state government, teachers and staff quarters by Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, at Olomoro Comprehensive High School, Olomoro, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State on Thursday.
He said, “We are carrying out comprehensive audit of physical infrastructure in our primary and secondary schools to enable us know where there are gaps and respond accordingly.
“Towards addressing the manpower shortages in our schools, I recently gave approval for the recruitment of teachers in twenty two of our local government councils.
“At least, 2000 persons are expected to be gainfully employed through the ongoing recruitment exercise.
“My administration will spare no expense in providing the conducive climate essential for high quality learning experience.”
The governor emphasized, “to enhance learning experience in our schools, this administration is encouraging periodic curriculum revision to ensure that the learning process incorporate digital literacy, online learning, critical thinking skills, independent learning skills, team work and leadership; this will ensure that the products of our educational institution possess the requisite skills and knowledge to function in any part of the world.’
Oborevwori thanked FIRS for donating the structures as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, asserting that the structures would enhance the welfare of the staff and teachers.
“Housing is one of the three fundamental basic human needs, the other two being food and clothing, hence, access to affordable housing is critical to human wellbeing,” Oborevwori observed.
Mrs Chiaka Ben-Obi who handed over the buildings on behalf of the Chairman, FIRS, Muhammad Nami, urged Nigerians to always pay their tax as the buildings were clear evidence of what the money collected is used for.
President-General, Olomoro Development Union, Deacon Emmanuel Oteri, had in an address, said that the projects consist of “2 units of 3-bedroom apartment, 10 units of 2-bedroom apartments and 10 units of 1-bedroom apartments.”
Those who spoke at the event include Hon. Ferguson Onwo, member representing Isoko South II, at the Delta State House of Assembly, President-General, Isoko Development Union, Prof. Christopher Akpotu, among others thanked FIRS for siting the projects at the community.
Some of the people who witnessed the event include the Odio-Ologbo of Olomoro Kingdom, HRM Isaiah Edekere Isike I, members of the Delta State House of Assembly, Commissioners and other political office holders.
