The Chairman of the Delta State Public Procurement Commission, Barr. David Igbodo (AIG Rtd) has said the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Sen (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is in the best interest of Delta State and all Deltans.
Speaking with journalists in Asaba on Thursday, Igbodo described the move as a strategic decision taken after careful analysis of the current political landscape in the country. According to him, aligning with the mainstream party at the national level is critical for attracting meaningful benefits to the state.
“The step taken by the governor and other stakeholders is to ensure that Delta remains in mainstream politics, with the attendant benefits,” he said.
Igbodo commended Governor Oborevwori for what he called “political foresight and boldness,” urging Deltans to rally behind the governor in his continued quest to deliver democratic dividends across the state.
According to him, “We are in a democracy where loyalty is key. In my estimation, our governor has done quite well in the past 22 months on the saddle, and we can assure him of support, particularly at this period of political realignment.”
It would be recalled that Governor Oborevwori, his immediate predecessor Sen (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, and other top political figures in the state officially defected to the APC on Wednesday, April 23, in a move that has sent ripples across the state’s political scene.
