Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged Christian pilgrims from the state to conduct themselves honorably while in Israel and Jordan, emphasizing that the pilgrimage is a sacred journey, not a mere festivity.
The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Bureau of Special Duties, Mr. Etacherure Ejiro Terry, gave this charge at a one-day orientation seminar held at the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Secretariat in Asaba for the 2024/2025 Christian pilgrimage.
Governor Oborevwori advised the intending pilgrims to act as worthy ambassadors of Christ and the state’s MORE Agenda, reminding them to pray for the restoration of the nation’s lost glory and the church of God. He also cautioned them against absconding or engaging in unholy activities, stressing the importance of upholding their faith and values.
The Chairman of the Delta State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Senior Apostle Okorote Sylvanus, highlighted the significance of this year’s pilgrimage, noting that it marks the first pilgrimage since the ceasefire agreement between Israel and warring nations.
He revealed that 250 pilgrims, excluding officials, would be airlifted to the Holy Land, and commended Governor Oborevwori as the only governor in the South-South region who has fully sponsored pilgrims for the journey.
The Chairman of CAN in Delta State, Rev. Lucky Osagbakhoe, and the Executive Secretary of the Pilgrims Welfare Board, Very Rev. Fr. Christopher Ekabo, assured the state government that the pilgrims would conduct themselves in a manner that brings honor to the state and the body of Christ.
The seminar, themed “Pilgrimage as a Tool for Spiritual Renewal,” featured insightful talks, including an overview of the pilgrimage exercise delivered by Senior Apostle Okorote Sylvanus.
As the Delta contingent prepares for their journey, expectations are high that they will return spiritually renewed and enriched, bearing testimonies that will inspire others in their faith.
