In continuation of the Delta State Directorate’s of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Covid-19 community to community Sensitization advocacy, the Agency took the campaign to Oko Amakom, a riverine Community in Oshimili South Local Government Area of the State.
Sensitizing the people on the theme: “Building A People Of Peace Working Together To Overcome COVID-19 With Focus On Health, Security And Infrastructures”, the Advocacy Train led by the State Director, Mr. Christopher Uche Anyabuine emphasized that COVID 19 was real and not a scam.
Speaking at the palace of the Okakwu of Oko Amakom Kingdom, Anyabuine who disclosed that yesterday was the Day 5 the Delta State Directorate’s of NOA embarked on Sensitization/ Enlightenment Campaign on “Building A People Of Peace Working Together To Overcome COVID-19 With Focus On Health, Security And Infrastructures”, signs and symptoms of COVID 19, safety protocols and government directives targeted at combating community transmission of the virus, noted that strict adherence to Covid-19 preventive Protocols were necessary to maintain the reduced reported cases of the virus in the State.
Anyabuine encouraged Deltans on regular use of face mask, observation of social distancing and regular hand washing with soap or use of alcohol based sanitizer if one must leave the house.
Also speaking, the Delta State NOA Assistant Director Administrative and Human Resources, Patricia Nkiru Umunna, noted that Covid-19 was like a spouse that has come to stay for now and it’s eating deep into our resources, so how we manage to curtail it’s spread would determine how fast the nation’s economy would revive.
On reported cases of Gender Based Violence, Umunna who charged residents of Oko Amakom to put all hands on deck for the fight against the dreaded pandemic that’s ravaging the world economy, urged women to dig deeper into investigating Gender Based Violence.
“We women need to uncover the root causes of these issues, but most importantly focus on what indeed all of us must do to stop this menace by changing how we also talk about it through the actions we take. It’s time we see both the civic and political enforcement of it’s laws.” Umunna stated.
While calling for the reopening of schools, creation of jobs for youths to ease their hardship under covid 19, respondents of the State expressed appreciation to NOA for the awarenes creation. Adding that the problem of increasing teenage pregnancy coupled with the worsening Covid-19 spread was worrisome.
