Determined to aid security, foster peace and development in the society, Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly on Tuesday organized an intensive training for security personnel under the auspices of vigilante groups drawn across the nine local government areas of Delta North.
The capacity building initiative which held at Senator Nwoko’s senatorial office Asaba, in collaboration with Defense Space Administration, also witnessed the presentation of various communication gadgets to the vigilante teams.
Over 60 beneficiaries from different Anioma communities received the communication tools to fight crime and maintain order in their neighborhood.
At the ceremony, Senator Nwoko said he was motivated to promote security as peace and social cohesion formed the bedrock of development.
Represented by the Director of Security at Ned Nwoko senatorial office, Comrade Joshua Opia, the international lawyer cum philanthropist said the progress of Delta North and Nigeria in general remained the centre piece of his legislative agenda.
Senator Nwoko, acknowledged as proponent of the renewed quest for Anioma state and advocate of human empowerment, noted that vigilantes with their rural closeness have a significant role in community security and maintenance of peace.
He urged the participants to be disciplined and focused in the task of safeguarding the communities, assuring that their labour would always be rewarded.
Also speaking, Captain C. J. Ejeteh of Defense Space Administration, said the security training and deployment of communication gadgets to the vigilante officials were necessary as Delta served as home to strategic security institutions worth monitoring by all stakeholders.
He stated that vigilantes were at the frontline of ensuring security of lives and properties, especially in the communities and urged beneficiaries of the empowerment programme to give their best. He thanked Senator Nwoko for his commitment to public good.
Two resource persons at the training Dr.Ben Ogoriba and Chief Barwa Peter commended Senator Nwoko for his foresight in hosting the ceremony which they described as far reaching and exemplary.
They gave useful tips to the participants on how and when to use firearms and noted that vigilantes must never take laws into their hands but call the attention of law enforcement agents in the line of duty.
The participants, all elated, praised Senator Nwoko for his consistency in uplifting humanity and enhancing social development.
Representatives of the vigilante groups from Anioma communities who spoke included Monday Chukwuji and Awaji Chukwuka, Ndokwa /Ukwuani axis, Chukwuma Nwoko and Nwankwo Francis Ikezue, Aniocha/Oshimili and Idehen Alfred, Ika neighborhood.
Certificates were presented to the participants at the ceremony supervised by the head, Senator Nwoko senatorial office Asaba, Chief Eze Ugo Asibelua.
