The National Leader of the Niger Delta Peace Awareness Movement (NDPAM), Alhaji Awo Destiny Harmony, has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its transformative strides under the leadership of its Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Igbuku.
In a statement issued in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Alhaji Harmony praised Dr. Igbuku’s relentless efforts to improve the lives of residents in the Niger Delta region, particularly his initiative to implement massive streetlight projects across the nine states under the NDDC’s jurisdiction.
“The streetlight projects in various communities across Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo, Imo, and Ondo States have not only illuminated communities, including riverine areas, but also enhanced security, creating safer environments for residents,” Harmony stated.
He further highlighted Dr. Igbuku’s dedication to ensuring the NDDC fulfills its mandate as an interventionist agency, emphasizing that the commission has embarked on numerous projects aimed at uplifting the region.
“These initiatives align seamlessly with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, showcasing Dr. Igbuku’s unwavering commitment to driving positive change in the Niger Delta through critical infrastructure development and empowerment programs,” he said.
Harmony also commended Dr. Igbuku’s emphasis on utilizing technology for project supervision and monitoring, which has improved the commission’s efficiency and delivery of quality projects to the long-neglected region.
He noted several completed projects as evidence of Dr. Igbuku’s exceptional leadership, including:
- The 27.5-kilometer Ogbia-Nembe road, featuring bridges and culverts, connecting 14 communities in Bayelsa State.
- The 6-kilometer Iko-Atabrikang-Akata-Opulom-Ikot Inwang-Okoroutip-Iwochang road in Akwa Ibom State.
- The 600-meter Ibeno Bridge in Akwa Ibom State.
- The 9-kilometer Obehie-Oke-Ikpe road in Abia State.
- The Omotosho Power Station to Okitipupa feeder line, a 45-kilometer double-circuit 33KV feeder line supplying electricity to 25 local government areas in Ondo State.
- The Amufi electricity injection substation, a 1x15MVA 33/11KV substation in Benin City, Edo State.
“These projects are testaments to Dr. Igbuku’s commitment to fostering sustainable development and improving the quality of life in the Niger Delta region,” Harmony remarked.
He called on stakeholders to rally behind the NDDC and support Dr. Igbuku’s efforts to drive meaningful progress. “With continued collaboration and support, the NDDC can achieve even greater milestones under his visionary leadership,” Harmony concluded.
