The National Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) Delta State Chapter have condemned the Delta State Government for the hasty eviction of members from the popular Mammy Market to the ongoing Ultra Modern Mechanic Village in Asaba.
The automobile group made the condemnation in Asaba while decrying the order of Asaba Capital Development Agency (ACDA) directing all Automobile Technicians to move into the Mechanic Village immediately with a threat to sanction violators.
NATA had earlier in an appeal letter signed by it’s State Chairman and Secretary Comrades Ifeanyi Abanum and Ejovwoke Enaworu sent to the Agency and the State Transport ministry, copying SSG and Chief of Staff to Governor Okowa, requested to be given an alternative measures of complying with the ACDA directive by providing them with a vacant space where they can all move into pending the completion of the Asaba Mechanic Village.
The group also appealed to the Delta State Government to release the vacant remaining land forming part of the Mechanic Village to enable them move all members therein.
Lamenting, owner of Efficiency Automobile Comrade Chinedu Anomali aka Efficiency disclosed that the Mechanic Village had not be completed and only 70 workshops are available where as the Association had over 3000 members.
“Where are you driving us to when you are still holding on to our land? Government should give us the remaining vast land to operate. The effect is too harsh on us except they want us to go on protest.” Anomali cried.
A visit to the popular Mammy Market where most automobile Technicians operates in Asaba, proved that nearly all skeletal / temporary shops from Ezenei junction/Cable Point road round about to Technical College junction has been brought down by caterpillar on the supervision of the Director General of ACDA Hon. Joan Mrakpor.
Mrakpor, sporting a denim gown was spotted in Anioma Petrol Station where she was supervising and directing structures to be demolish yesterday around 16:45hours of Wednesday, 5 February, 2020.
