The need for all to speak up against trafficking in persons has been stressed.
The State Coordinator of Delta State Journalists against trafficking in persons, Comrade Anthonia Mowah stated this while on Delta TV Morning Ride Programme to sensitise the people on the signs, and dangers of trafficking in persons and ways to combating the menace.
Speaking on the DEVATOP Center for Africa Development project TALKAM Against Trafficking In Persons, Comrade Mowah pointed out the need to eradicate human trafficking describing it as hence and the greatest violation of human rights, and called on all to strengthen resilience against exploitation and underlying socioeconomic and cultural issues that create the enabling environment for trafficking to thrive.
She urged stakeholders to keep pushing those who can make a difference in terms of changing policies to strengthen prevention measures, improve identification of victims and increase support of survivors and end impunity to the dehumanizing vices.
Explaining this year’s theme; Reach Every Victim of Trafficking Leave No One behind, she said highlighted the power of internships and collaboration in strengthening anti trafficking efforts as the traffickers continue to target women and girls where majority of them were used for sexual exploitation and forced labour.
The Delta State Coordinator against trafficking in persons reiterated that to defeat the bedeviling menace sensitization and advocacy were key, as the DEVATOP Center for Africa Development is partnering with journalists across the country including ,Delta, Enugu and Sokoto states to achieve the feat.
It would be recalled that the World Day Against Human Trafficking was celebrated on the 30th, July 2023, to raise awareness, encourage vigiliance and gain support for prevention of Human Trafficking
