Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema, has defended the continued existence of the Board during a public hearing on the Bill to repeal the Delta State Waste Management Board Law of 2008 and enact a new law for the effective management of waste in the state.
The public hearing, organized by the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Environment, Oil and Gas, took place today at the Assembly complex.
Presenting the Board’s memorandum, Hon. Edema emphasized that every state in the country operates a waste management agency, stressing that Delta State cannot be an exception. He reiterated his commitment to achieving a cleaner and healthier Delta State, adding that all concerns and recommendations were addressed in the submission signed by the Board.
Hon. Edema assured that the Board remains focused on its mandate and will not be distracted in its quest for a cleaner environment.
The public hearing was presided over by the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Festus Utuama, alongside Hon. Chief Ferguson Onwo and Hon. Matthew Omonade.
Accompanying Hon. Edema from the Waste Management Board were Hon. Felix Erhimedafe (Member Central), Hon. Cosmas Igbenije (Member North), Chief Mrs. Amb. Ethel Enifome Odunwa (Member South), as well as directors and other management staff.
