The administration of Mallam Umar Namadi, Governor of Jigawa State, has been praised for its strides in addressing gender inequality and empowering women through targeted policies. The governor received commendation for his efforts in combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and promoting women’s economic independence, which has enabled many to surpass societal barriers and achieve self-sufficiency.
This recognition came during the official presentation of an Award of Excellence by the Standup for Women Society (SWS) International. The award ceremony, held yesterday at the Government House in Jigawa, was led by the organization’s International Administrative Officer, Liberator Timinepere Jombo Idoko, on behalf of its International President, Barrister Deborah Ijadele-Adetona.
Mrs. Idoko applauded the governor’s commitment to gender sensitivity, inclusiveness, and empowerment, noting that his administration’s policies have provided women with opportunities to excel and contribute meaningfully to society. She highlighted SWS International’s advocacy for gender parity, women’s rights, and the protection of the girl child, emphasizing the organization’s dedication to strengthening family values.
While presenting the award, Mrs. Idoko urged Governor Namadi to remain steadfast in championing the welfare of women and fostering state-wide development.
In his response, Governor Namadi expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing himself as a “gender-friendly leader” committed to inclusivity and equality. He reiterated that empowering women is crucial for creating a just and egalitarian society.
The governor also outlined key initiatives under his administration, including:
Girl-child education programs to improve access to education for young girls.

State-wide women empowerment initiatives aimed at boosting their economic independence.
Governor Namadi reaffirmed his resolve to expand these initiatives, stating that the award inspires him to continue advancing the welfare of women and children across Jigawa State.
Speaking earlier, Mrs. Idoko highlighted the objectives of SWS International, describing it as a platform for uniting women to advocate for their rights and development across political, economic, and social spheres.
