Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa has disclosed that, it is statutory according to the Laws of Delta State, for the State government to present staff of office to a traditional ruler after due installation and enthronement by his people.
Governor Okowa stated this yesterday in Warri while presenting the official Staff of office to His Royal Majestic, Emmanuel Onobrayekpeyan Okumagba 11, as the Orosuen of Okere Urhobo Kingdom, Warri South Local Government Are, Delta State.
Governor Okowa, who was respresented by his Deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, noted that the State government does not meddle with the selection of traditional rulers, adding that, community that wants a king must follow due process which include selection by its people.
Governor Okowa who warned that the State government will not tolerate illegal traditional stools in any part of the State, said every traditional ruler must be recognized and formerly endorsed by the State government.
He urge the people of Okere Urhobo Kingdom to rally round their new monarch in order to ease the task of discharging his duties.
The Governor urge the royal father to see his elevation as a call to contribute his quota to the development of Okere Urhobo Kingdom. “Your Royal Majesty, you have been described as peaceful, very accommodating and loving. I urge you to bring those virtues and your wealth of experience in public and private life to bear in handling this responsibility bestowed on you by your people and continue to contribute to the peace process not only of Okere Urhobo kingdom but also in Warri South Local Government and indeed the State”. Gov. Okowa stated.
Governor Okowa while calling on the people of Okere Urhobo kingdom to live in peaceful co-existence and robust brotherhood with their neighbours, said their requests particularly the demand for the rehabilation of the roads around Okumagba layout will be channeled to the appropriate agencies of government for necessary attention.
While congratulating His Royal Majesty, Emmamuel Okumagba 11 on his appointment and recognition as the Orosuen of Okere Urhobo Kingdom, Governor Okowa urge him to reciprocate the kind gesture of the people by promoting their interest and projecting their culture to the world.
The Chairman Warri South Local government Area, Dr Tidi Michael, while congratulating his royal majesty on his enthronement, urge the people of Okere Urhobo to work in unity for more development to trive in the kingdom.
Dr. Tidi, assured that the council will continue to promote peace and harmony among the people in the local government as well as ensuring that security of lives and property prevails.
Earlier, in an address presented on behalf of the kingdom, the Esiavbe of Okere kingdom, Chief Emmanuel Omovie, noted that His Royal Majesty Emmanuel Okumagba 11, the Orosuen of Okere Urhobo kingdom was selected, installed and crowned on 16th Nov. 2020 by the kingmakers in accordance with the gazette and Okere Urhobo Chieftaincy declaration.
Chief Omovie commended the governor for all infrastructural development brought to the kingdom viz-a-viz the number of appointments given to sons and daughters of the kingdom.
Chief Omovie appealed to the governor to rehibilate the roads in Okumagba layout saying that such good road network will open up the Warri metropolis more and reduce traffic.
