Patients and their relatives at the Federal medical centre Asaba are having a tough time as workers on duty now treat them with phone torches.
A visit to the premises on Saturday night revealed that the emergency unit was in total darkness while at the orthopaedic clinic, patients were complaining about the situation as the wards were in total darkness.
A patient who undergone surgical, operated upon was brought with an ambulance from the Surgical Center of the hospital to the orthopaedic clinic and was rejected by those on duty as a result of lack of electricity last night.
The patient was seen in the hospital’s ambulance while his relatives were left in shock not knowing what to do at the hospital last night.
The health workers on duty were seen administering drugs to patients with either their phones light for those who still have batteries on their phones while others were seen begging patients for their phone light.
As at the time of filing in this report, the patient is yet to be received at the orthopaedic clinic because those on duty said their batteries were down and needed light to work on the patient to avoid any casualty.
Some people who spoke on the condition of anonymity said it was a pity that such a magnificent health facility in the state would be in darkness.
They called on the management to brace up and source for other ways of generating electricity and stop putting people’s lives at risk.
Some patients said the place was usually laced with mosquitoes at night and while trying to recover from the ailment that brought them, they usually end up with another sickness.
