BY CHARLES NWABARDI,
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship candidate for Isoko North Local Government Area in the forth–coming Delta State local government election, Honourable Cornelius Ugoh said that his regime will be for the people as his government would be for the upliftment of lives of the people of Isoko North Local Government Area.
Ugoh made the submission during the Nigeria Union of Journalists organized and sponsored one-on-one media chat with Local Government chairmanship candidates of Political Parties in Delta State held in Isoko Development Union Hall, Oleh in Isoko South Local Government. Speaking, the APC Chairmanship candidate said that his administration would focus more in providing social amenities, engage in Youth and Women empowerment, improvement in Primary Healthcare and making the basic education worthwhile. In his words; “in my bid to realize the mission of my administration, I will not achieve it alone; I will know how to approach the Delta State Governor through due process in order to make sure that funds are regularly and judiciously released to my local government”. Ugoh, however, lamented the callous and defiant behavior of the youths towards education in Isoko North Local Government Area because of get-rich-quick syndrome. The youths have jettisoned education in this era and tagged it a scam. This is worrisome. I will embark on mass educational campaign to turn the youths’ minds back to education”. He said that APC has come to rescue Isoko North from deprivation as he also expressed his confidence that he would have a landslide victory in the forth-coming Local Government elections come March 6, 2021. In a very relaxed posture, Ugoh said “I am confident that I will win, I am a grassroots man, accepted by my people because they know my antecedents and they are sure that I will run a government that has human face”. It would be recalled the chairman of NUJ Delta State Council. Comrade Mike Ikeogwu who was also present had said that media chat organized by NUJ was in line with its functions as the watchdog of the society, agenda setter and crusading for reforms. The Isoko North event marked the beginning of the exercise as the NUJ initiative would afford all the parties candidates the opportunity to tell their people why they want to govern them. Nevertheless, the two PDP chairmanship candidates for Isoko North and Isoko South were conspicuously absent till the end of the event. However, a source who pleaded anonymity said that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) camps were already jittery for fear of being floored by the two APC candidates. The NUJ State executive members were at the event including all the mass media reporters, cameramen, and correspondents. The Host NUJ Isoko Chapel led by its chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ikebe helped to make the event very colourful and successful. The Chairmanship candidate was accompanied to the event by his Vice and some prospective Councillors
