Federal government has been charged to initiate plans that would address the socioeconomic and infrastructural challenges bedevilling oil bearing communities as compensation for their huge imput in the nation’s economy.
The Senior Political Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa Hon Funkekeme Solomon gave the charge while speaking at a live Delta TV programme TV Guest on Tuesday the 23rd of February 2021.
He said the time was ripe for the federal government to put an end to the conspiracy move to deny oil host communities of their entitlements from the federation account stressing that most of the oil firms were not fulfilling their corporate social responsibility because of their dubious tendencies.
The senior Political Adviser who was a former legislator in the Delta State House of Assembly said hostilities stopped in the creeks and the Niger Delta region because the people felt it was time to embrace peace for development to take root as no meaningful progress could be made in a crisis ridden environment.
Hon Solomon lauded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for embarking on road construction and execution of other projects in the creeks despite the difficult terrain saying oil firms should wake up and emulate the Delta State government by embarking on projects in oil bearing communities to give them a sense of belonging.
He said every part of Delta had remained peaceful due to the equitable distribution of on going and completed projects courtesy of the Okowa led administration.
He said the PDP was sure of victory in the forthcoming local government elections in Delta State because of the legacy projects of Governor Okowa administration and advised the Delta State Independent Electoral commission DESIEC to ensure that transparency and credibility characterise the electoral process.
Honourable Solomon added that the Asaba International Airport was concessioned for it to grow into an international airport and also attract local and international investors to the state.
On the issue of power rotation in the state by the PDP, he said God will decide the tribe that will have it in 2023 and sued for the understanding of the different tribes in advancing the stronger Delta vision.
He said the wealth creation programmes of Governor Okowa has given youths and women opportunity to acquire skills in addition to their academic qualifications to become economically independent rather than be a threat to security.
He affirmed that the state was on course despite the Covid-19 pandemic and advocated that the interest of the state should be placed above other considerations.
