Former 3-time member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Daniel Oritsegbubemi Reyenieju earlier today played host to Delta Unity Group at his Ugbuwangwe residence in Warri.
Recall that the political pressure organization converged for its first General Assembly in Kwale, the Headquarters of Ndokwa West Local Government Area, on Wednesday, August 17 where the group called for the unity and commitment of all Deltans to the success of the Atiku/Okowa PDP Presidential ticket as well as the Delta Governorship mandate of Olorogun David Edevbie in the 2023 General Elections.
The group reiterated its commitment to promoting unity and brotherliness within the Peoples Democratic Party towards the success of PDP candidates at all levels.
The host, Hon. Reyenieju while responding to newsmen said that the purpose of the meeting was to sensitize and bring people together for Edevbie, the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Delta State.
“By the pronouncement of the judgment of the court by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, Delta State has already a gubernatorial candidate. What we are trying to tell people is don’t be discouraged, there’s hope. That’s what we are doing “. Reyenieju stated.
Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Delta Central Coordinator of the group who spoke to newsmen immediately after the meeting expressed optimism for Olorogun David Edevbie at the Appellate Court, adding that the Federal High Court judgment that installed Olorogun David Edevbie as the legal and rightful governorship candidate of the PDP will be upheld by the appellate court. The former Speaker commended Edevbie for his immense contribution towards the success of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s first tenure.
“David Edevbie lost to Rt.Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori very well in the primaries and he hasn’t contended in any form that the primaries is faulty. He hasn’t contended on the patterns, ways, durability of the primaries instead he said that Sheriff is not qualified and he proved it in court and got victory and the court declared him the candidate.
“We are waiting on the appellate court to give its judgment which of course we are very sure and convinced that the Federal High Court judgment will be upheld. I have already told you that we will win. We said this document doesn’t belong to you, it is left for you to prove that the document belongs to you. That’s our case. And till now, Sheriff hasn’t been able to prove that the WAEC certificate belongs to him. So, how do you think he will win? He had ample opportunity of proving himself at the court of first instance which he didn’t do.
“David Edevbie, a distinguished man, well educated, fine gentleman. Of course you know, he was former commissioner, and even a commissioner under Okowa, he stabilized Okowa’s government in his first tenure as Commissioner for Finance and no sooner he left, you can see all the ‘borrows’.
“If Edevbie was still in Okowa’s government, I don’t think Okowa would have borrowed. In Okowa’s first tenure, no money was borrowed while I was even Speaker of the House because Edevbie is a stabilizer. I can tell you that Edevbie will run government without borrowing.
“Rivers State has done very well with 12 flyovers and still counting and that was Edevbie’s plan when he said modernizing Delta together. We have gone passed the stage of one or two kilometers road in Delta.
“Let us see what will make people say that Delta is now a modernized state. Delta has gone beyond the issue of patching of roads. Put flyovers everywhere. I hear a flyover is coming up in Asaba, that’s the kind of thing we call modernization. Let us modernize Delta. We do not want a monotonous Delta. We want a modernized Delta and that’s why we are supporting Edevbie. If he had said, I want to continue from where Okowa stopped. Then, we will say that it is the same construction of substandard roads that last for only six months. We want to modernize Delta”.
