In a strongly worded press statement released on January 1, 2025, the New Delta Coalition has condemned what it describes as a deliberate misrepresentation of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s Christmas message. The alleged misrepresentation, attributed to Festus Ahon, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, has been labeled as a concerning act of misinformation.
The coalition accused Ahon, operating under the pseudonym Alaowei Okoronwanta, of distorting Senator Omo-Agege’s message to undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies. According to the statement, the former Deputy President of the Senate’s original message was a balanced call for unity, hope, and support for economic reforms initiated by the federal government.
“Senator Omo-Agege’s Christmas message highlighted Nigeria’s challenges while emphasizing the importance of reforms for long-term growth. It was reflective of his commitment to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the well-being of Nigerians,” the coalition noted.
In contrast, the statement described the fabricated narrative attributed to Senator Omo-Agege as a “demonic effort” by Governor Oborevwori’s administration to mask its true stance on federal policies. The coalition questioned the sincerity of the governor’s public declarations of support for President Tinubu’s administration, citing inconsistencies in his actions and those of his aides.
“It’s the classic voice of Jacob and hand of Esau,” the statement declared, accusing the Delta State government of playing political games and sponsoring misleading propaganda to undermine the federal government.
The coalition called on Festus Ahon and the Delta State government to cease unethical practices and uphold the principles of truth and integrity. It also urged the public to disregard the false narrative and focus on Senator Omo-Agege’s original, constructive message.
Signed by Godwin Anaughe on behalf of the New Delta Coalition, the statement concluded with a call for transparency and alignment between the Delta State government’s actions and its public declarations of support for federal policies.
