Eligible Delta Youths have been called upon to take advantage of the gainful employment, scholarship and other opportunities offered by the Nigerian Army, by enrolling in the ongoing 89th Regular Recruit Intake for Trades and Non-Tradesmen and Women.
Delta State Governor, Elder (Dr) Sheriff Oborevwori, made the call on Monday, during a visit by the Sensitization Team of the Nigerian Army Headquarters, Abuja, led by Brigadier- General Witto Nzidee, saying that his administration is fully committed to creating more jobs and wealth for youths and women across the three senatorial districts.
The governor who was ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, disclosed that statistics of enrollment from year 2021 to 2024 indicated that Delta State made steady progress in the number of Deltans recruited into the Nigerian Army, while assuring that the State shall step-up sensitization efforts through the State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary Services.
He said strong synergy have been built with the State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, traditional rulers, religious organizations, and Local Government Councils to improve sensitization and awareness creation in order to get more youths to serve the nation through enrolments into the Armed Forces and Paramilitary Services, assuring that Delta would meet the required quota allocated to her, going forward.
Governor Oborevwori also expressed the State’s commitment to improving the enrollment outcome by providing free transportation to shortlisted candidates from all three senatorial districts for them to come to Asaba for the screening exercise, adding that the State Government will rejig efforts towards seeing that more Deltans get enrolled in the ongoing Nigerian Army 89th Regular Recruit Intake exercise.
The Governor charged the Director General of Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, to step up result oriented media and publicity strategies, in collaboration with the State Awareness Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary Services, indicating locations across the three senatorial districts for free bus pick up points for all successful applicants to be screened in Asaba at the stipulated dates announced by the Nigeria Army.
The leader of the delegation, Brigadier General Witto Nzidee, expressed the mandate of the present head of the Nigerian Army Chief of Administration, Major Gen. Lawrence Fejokwu, who is a Deltan to re-awaken the need for the State to meet its required quota of enrolees in the ongoing 89th Regular Recruit Intake.

He stated that the Nigerian Army offers higher education scholarship for serving officers across board, as well as gainful employment with retirement benefits, and that recruitment into the Army is devoid of marginalization, while recruits and junior officers may progress through the ranks depending on their willingness and commitment to utilize available opportunities.
He said Delta State has not been able to meet the required quota of enrolee into the Nigerian army over the years, saying that with the basic qualification of Secondary School certificate, the door of continuous education, national and international training is open in the field of medicine, nursing, engineering, music, among others.
Also speaking, the Commander of 63 Brigade, Asaba, Brigadier-General Ugochukwu Unachukwu warned against pipeline vandalism, oil bunkering, arm robbery and kidnaping, while asking youths to engage in productive activities and the opportunities of gainful employment in the Nigerian army.
The sensitization visit had in attendance senior government officials, traditional rulers and members of the Delta State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary services headed by the Commissioner for Youth Development.
The online registration for the 89 Regular Recruits Intake for Trades Men/Non Trades Men and Women began on 31st March 2025 and will end on the 17th of May 2025.
