As the February 16 Presidential and National Assembly election approaches its last hours count the Spokesman (Fiyewei) of the Great Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, Chief Godspower Gbenekama TDA (JP) has again in strong terms urged the federal government and politicians not to create panic or cause artificial insecurity in Gbaramatu kingdom, its communities, other Ijaw clans as well as other communities in Delta State and in the Niger Delta.
Chief Gbenekama enjoined Gbaramatu born politicians in the race and all other policians of Ijaw extraction to play the game according to the rules and regulations stipulated by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and make sure that everybody is allowed to vote as well as sustain the peace in the area during and after the polls.
He warned criminal elements who may intend coming from other places not to come to Ijaw land to cause security tensions such as pipeline vandalism, armed robbery and kidnapping to desist frim coming to the clan, adding that Ijaws are law abiding citizens and will continue to be so by handing over any suspected criminal to law enforcement agency.
The Great Gbaramatu Kingdom Spokesman declared that they will not allow their clan to be used as a battle field because of anybody’s selfish ambition because “when the chips are down, we would be left to suffer the consequences while such people go back to their communities and towns to live in their palatial houses”, Chief Gbenekama noted that they must ensure total compliance to the directive of the Pere of the Great Gbaramatu Kingdom HRM Oboro Gbaraun the 11 also known Monarch of the Niger Delta on peaceful coexistence as well as be vigilant during and after the elections in order to sustain the existing peace in the area.
He advised Gbaramatu indigenes and Ezon people to shun acts that will make people tag them as bad people as the security agents have been trying to do, just as he charged Gbaramatu people to mobilize and go to their various communities to cast their ballot and make sure they defend their votes.
The (Fiyewei) Spokesman appealed to the Niger Delta Avengers to give peace a chance and not preempt the elections outcome to cause tension and give feferal government benefit of doubt as ealier assured that the elections won’t be compromised, he also appealed to security agents to be professional while carrying out their duties and the head of Nigerian military to supervise strictly activities of their personnel deployed to the Niger Delta closely in order to avoid iltreatment meted out to indigenes of the area leading to serious abuse of fundamental human rights of the people.
