Ethiope East APC Reject Chief Ogboru’s Return, Describe Move as Unethical and Unconstitutional
A major political drama is unfolding in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State as the Elders and Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have vehemently rejected the alleged return of Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru to the party, describing the move as unethical, unconstitutional, and self-serving.
In a statement jointly signed by Chief Barr. G. S Avwunudiogba, Chairman, Ethiope East APC Elders and Leaders Forum; Chief Julius Ogboru, Chairman, Ethiope East APC; Hon. Chief Barr. Obukohwo Joseph Oshevire, Former Member, Delta State House of Assembly, and Ufuoma Raymond Edjeba, Secretary of the forum, the group accused Chief Ogboru of attempting to force his way into the party without following due process.
The elders stressed that Ogboru’s purported return did not receive the approval of the Ward Chairman, the only official empowered by the party’s constitution to issue membership cards — a clear violation of the APC’s rules and regulations.
Describing Chief Ogboru as a serial political nomad, the APC Elders recalled his history of contesting governorship elections under multiple parties, including the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Labour Party (LP), and the APC — only to later align with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
They further alleged that Ogboru worked against the APC during the 2023 governorship election by supporting the PDP and was rewarded with appointments for his loyalists as Senior Special Assistants (SSA), Personal Assistants (PA), and other political positions in the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led government.
“This sudden return to the APC without genuine repentance or clearance from his ward chairman is not only unconstitutional but a calculated attempt to destabilize the party for personal gain,” the statement read.
The group reaffirmed their unwavering confidence in Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 election, describing him as a loyal party man who has consistently upheld the party’s ideals and values.
They vowed to resist any attempt by Ogboru or his associates to undermine the party’s unity and progress, warning that disciplinary action would be taken against anyone found colluding with him to sabotage the APC in Ethiope East.
“We are committed to building a strong and united APC in Ethiope East. We will not tolerate any act of sabotage or disloyalty from anyone, including Ogboru,” the statement declared.
The Elders and Leaders called on the APC’s national leadership to closely monitor the situation and ensure that the party’s rules are not compromised for personal interests.
The rejection of Chief Ogboru’s return is seen as a significant setback for his political ambitions, raising questions about his next political move and the future of APC in Delta State.
