The Erhuvwu Club of Nigeria, Asaba, recently honored eight of its members for their exceptional contributions to the club and humanity through their appointments and promotions in various fields.
The award presentation took place during the club’s 2024 end-of-year party in Asaba, which brought together distinguished guests and members to celebrate a year of remarkable achievements and community service.
Sir David Onokpe, President of the Club and retired Permanent Secretary, expressed gratitude to the guests and members for celebrating with them.
He thanked members for their genuine support, which has sustained the club’s growth and unity.
The club’s commitment to the welfare of its members, social obligations, and the promotion of Urhobo heritage was highlighted by Sir Onokpe.
He emphasized the club’s dedication to preserving cultural traditions and fostering unity.
The President revealed that the major achievements in the past year was a robust welfare program, an insurance policy, and advocacy for the Okuama community during the recent military occupation.
The chairman of the occasion, who is the Okpako – General of the club and a retired Head of Service, Sir Paul Evuarherhe charged members to promote the club’s ethics and protect members’ rights.
Sir Evuarherhe encouraged members to teach their children Urhobo culture and protect the good morals kept for them by their forebears.
He expressed optimism about Club’s future, emphasizing its commitment to the protection of members’ rights, Pan-Urhobo development, and the preservation of Urhobo culture.
There was a solemn moment of remembrance for Mrs Eseoghene Asoro, members wife who died.
The highlights of the event was the presentation of award to eight members of the club . The awardees were: Sir David Onokpe, Board member Delta security Trust fund, Mr Festus Ohwojero, Director General, Delta State Sport Commission, Smart Edoge esq, Deputy Clerk, Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Grayham Osakwe, Secretary to Uvwie Local Government Council,
Other awardees include Chief Abel Esievo, Executive Assistant (Political) to Delta State Governor, Arc. Michael Oghenejode, Special Adviser to the Minority leader, Delta State House of Assembly, Prof Kingsley Mrabure, promoted to professor of law and Mr Lucky Omokri, recognised for his service to the club.
It was indeed a moment of dancing and merriment with members enjoying themselves.
