Towards 2023, there have been clamours by the Isoko ethnic nationality for the seat of the Senate in Delta South senatorial district to get a balance in the political affairs of the zone. This made one of their sons, supported by the leadership vie for the senatorial ticket of one of the political parties but met a brick wall.
Though the first shot fired missed the target, the Isoko people came prepared with a double-edged sword because their agitation for the senatorial seat is not out of place but genuine. The job must be completed because for the Isoko people it will be out of place to be denied what, in all fairness, is due to them.
Moreover, like the term ‘Emilokan’, it is the time for the Isoko nation to produce the successor to the incumbent James Manager. This is an incontestable fact but with indignation and undermining equity, those who in all regards are supposed to lend their unflinching support to a just course on reciprocity are covertly and overtly trying to sabotage it. This is a failed attempt already.
Should I state that the calmness and meekness to support other ethnic nationalities all these years is not a sign of weakness or cowardice but of magnanimity. With their large heart, the nation dubbed the peace-loving people of Niger Delta played key roles in enthroning men from other regions and now is time for reciprocity.
However, despite it being the turn of the Isoko people to produce the senator representing Delta South in the National Assembly, they never capitalised on stramash to put forward every Tom, Dick and Harry at the frontline. They brought one of their finest whose qualification and capacity eclipse all contending actors.
Additionally, the candidate of the Isoko people stands above all contenders and remains the best for the arduous task by all standards. This alone shows the Isoko people came prepared by fielding one of their illustrious sons to speak truth to power whilst putting burning issues affecting the zone on national discourse.
There is no gainsaying that Hon Joel-Onowakpo Thomas of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and candidate of the Isoko people remains the best choice for Delta South to redefine its political trajectory and shoot its relevance in the nation’s polity.
He is ready, prepared and will deliver the dividends due to the region.
Support the clamour by the Isoko nationality today and send Hon Joel-Onowakpo Thomas to the Senate.
