Delta State government (DTSG) has taken the next step at battling fire outbreaks with the employment of over 100 new intakes to fill in vacant positions in the fire fighting command in the state.
Speaking to newsmen at the training ground of the new intakes at the Old Secretariat, Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) premises, Asaba, the state capital, the Director of Fire Services in the state, Mr. Eugene Oziwele, expressed gratitude to the state government for granting the request to beef up the manpower need of the command, adding that the command may have very many constraints, but was working hard to curb fire outbreaks in the state, just as he said that the command had a major problem in responding timely to distress calls on fire outbreaks in the state owing to untimeliness of such calls.
He said that most fire outbreaks in the state were caused by ignorance of causes of such damaging incidences, adding that the command had the capacity to combat any fire outbreak in the state which, he said, explained its extension of services in neighboring states of Anambra and Edo some times.
Throwing more light on the incidence of the recent fire outbreak of the gas plant at Agbor, he said that the fire outbreak could have been caused by a leakage that spread very far from the plant to where a possible ignition sparked off the unfortunate inferno, adding that there was the need for all to be cautious of a possible outbreak of fire at all times and have the required responses to curb its spread.
He enjoined residents to call the control room of the fire command in the state as quickly as possible in the event of any fire outbreak on 08030882755 to save lives and property in the state.
