The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) and Governor Elect, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, has stated that the Leadership of the State Assembly is committed to training and retraining of its staff as priority for quality service delivery.
He made the commitment during the opening ceremony of 3-Day Capacity Building Programme, Wednesday 12th to Friday14th April, 2023, for Members of Staff of the Delta State House of Assembly on Grade Level 3 to10, with the theme: “Standing Out, Making The Right Impact and Securing Our Future.” Held at Benizia Hotel Asaba the State capital.
Oborevwori, who was represented by the Deputy Speaker of the DTHA, Rt. Hon. Ochor Christopher Ochor, said “As a policy thrust of the House to build a virile, effective and efficient workforce in the State Assembly, the leadership of the Delta State House of Assembly has made training and retraining of staff a priority for quality service delivery since the inception of the Seventh Assembly.
“Since 2019, we have been faithful to this commitment and God willing, we will sustain it till our last day in office.This is because training and retraining of staff is a catalyst for quality service delivery in any organisation.
“This training is therefore another opportunity for you to develop your skills and learn the right attitude in the discharge of your duties. As we all know, competence and positive attitude in an organisation are sine qua non to efficient and effective service delivery.”
He apologized for his absence, which he said through the Deputy Speaker, that it was due to official engagement outside the state.
In his words, ” I bring you warm felicitations from my Boss and friend, the Honourable Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. Mr. Speaker is unavoidably absent due to official engagements outside the State, otherwise, he would have personally come to formally flag-off this training programme. However, he directed me to represent him and also sends special apologies to all of you, including our highly respected facilitators.”
Rt. Hon. Speaker enjoin the staffs to give it the attention it deserves to justify the huge investment in this workshop because, to whom much is given, much is also expected.
Adding that the workshop will not only equip the staffs with new skill sets , but will make them more effective in their various duties assigned to them which will further create awareness in managing their health and wellbeing in the office.
He said, they the lawmakers are hopeful and expecting high level of performance from them.
“We are hopeful and expect higher level of performance of your duties after this training programme. Expectedly, the leadership of the House and management have engaged some of the best facilitators around for this workshop. I encourage you to be active, seek explanation where necessary and above all intellectually engage them.
The Governor Elect specially thank the management team of the Assembly led by the Clerk of the House for their support and quality advise to the leadership of the house from time to time, just as he equally commended the Resource Persons for their presence, in spite of the short notice of the programme. He is indeed very grateful for the timely response.
