The Delta State Lawmakers on resumption of plenary after inauguration on Tuesday, 27th June, 2023, received 7-Man nomination for the reconstitution of Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy from the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, at Asaba the state capital.
Reading the letter from the State Governor that was addressed to the Speaker and Members of the State House of Assembly (DTHA) conveying the nominees on the floor of House, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Guwor Emomotimi Dennis, said following the expiration of the tenure of the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has nominated seven persons for appointment into positions.
According to the Speaker, the governor’s letter read “Following the expiration of the tenure of the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, and in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 3, (1) and (2) of the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy Law, 2016, I wish to nominate the following persons for appointment into positions in the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy in the capacity indicated against their names:
” 1) Honourable Justice Celestina Ogisi (Rtd), Chairman.
2) Professor Louis Ikechukwu Ojogwu, Member Representing Delta North.
3) Alexander Neyin Member, Representing Delta South.
4) Amb. Dr. Iris Jewo Ibi, Member Representing Delta Central.
5) Augustine Nwabueze Escagwu Esq. Member Representing Nigerian Bar Association.
6) Festus Chukwuemeke Onyaeju, Member Representing Nigerian Correctional Services.
7) Mrs. Uju Rosaline Monye, Secretary Representing Ministry of Justice. “
The motion for the received of the Governor’s letter for further deliberation and consideration was moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. (Engr.) Emeka Nwaobi (FNSE) and it was seconded by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Festus Chukwuyem Okoh.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor asked all nominees to submit 35 copies of their curriculum Vitae (CVs) on or before Monday, 3rd July, 2023, to the office of the Clerk, and appear for screening on Tuesday 4th of July, 2023.
The House further adjourned plenary to Tuesday, 4th July, 2023, by 10:00am
